Goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger was the hero as Chelsea women beat Lyon 4-3 on penalties to book a place in the UEFA Women’s champions league semifinal.
Ann-Katrin Berger who was just undergoing treatment for Thyroid cancer came through for her side as they beat the defending champions at Stamford Bridge on Friday.

Chelsea women went into the second leg clash with a 1-0 away victory over Lyon but the lead was canceled out when Vanessa Gilles’ effort from close range beat Ann-Katrin Berger.
At full time, it ended 1-1 and the game headed to extra time, 5 minutes into the second half extra time, Vanessa Gilles gave Lyon the lead.
But with the likes of Chelsea men’s manager, Graham Porter, first team players like Reece James, and Marc Curcurella on the stand, women never gave up.
And they were rewarded with a late penalty which was converted by Maren Naevdal Mjeldein in the 120+8 minute.
Then it was time for the penalties, and Ann-Katrin Berger saved two penalties to help Chelsea beat Lyon 4-2 just as she beat her cancer.
Chelsea women will now play against Asisat Oshoala’s Barcelona, while Arsenal will play against their long-term nemesis Wolfsburg.
