We have not issued any sit-at-home in Lagos – IPOB

  • Urges Igbo residents to ignore order

From Stanley Uzoaru, Owerri

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has distanced itself from the purported sit-at-home order in Lagos State, adding that it is aimed at blackmailing its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

A faction of the Igbo separatist group led by Simon Ekpa had on Tuesday, March 29, threatened to order a sit-at-home protest in Lagos following incidents of anti-Igbo violence surrounding the concluded general elections.

Media and Publicity Secretary of the group Emma Powerful, disassociating IPOB from the order, has enjoined Igbo residing in Lagos to ignore it completely and go about their businesses.

“IPOB has never issued any sit-at-home order outside Biafra Land. Anyone issuing any sit-at-home orders in Biafra or in Lagos is on his or her own and not doing so on behalf of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu nor of IPOB,” he said.

“Therefore, IPOB publicly disassociate ourselves from any purported sit-at-home call in Lagos or anywhere in Nigeria, including Biafra Land at this time. Any day IPOB issues a sit-at-home order, the reasons for the sit-at-home will be made public, and it will be observed only in Biafra Region and any other regions that may like to join.

“We use this medium to ask the public and particularly Ndigbo in Lagos to ignore and disregard this falsehood because IPOB did not order a sit-at-home in Lagos,” Powerful stated.
