The Vice Chancellor of Edo state-owned Ambrose Alli University, Prof. Asomwan Sonnie Adagbonyi has debunked claims that the institution has increased the tuition, and attributed the misinformation to the dissolved Students Union Government (SUG).
This was just as the VC disclosed that AAU is “probably one of the few universities in Nigeria where students have the opportunity to pay their school fees instalmentally”.
Prof. Asomwan, who made the clarification at a press briefing in Benin City on Tuesday said “the erstwhile Students Union Government (SUG) made attempts to misinform the public about the add-ons to the tuition fees. And incidentally, these so-called “add-ons” are not new to the students”.
According to him, “there is no increment in the tuition fees of returning students. This is contrary to the news making the rounds that AAU has increased tuition fees for returning students to about 100 percent. Some reports even say 200 or 300 percent.
“We have taken time to produce for you the current chargeable fees in AAU as paid by both fresh and returning students”.
Continuing, the VC said the students have been paying the add-ons which he explained includes Student Union Dues, Alternative Subscription Model (ASM) Fees, Interswitch Transaction Charges amongst others.
