SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Jonathan Quick either doesn’t realize how much of an impact he’s had on the young players in the Rangers locker room or the newly extended goaltender believes his efforts are the norm.
The Blueshirts certainly know the magnitude of his influence and that the initiative he’s taken with rookies is not common practice.
The example he sets and the presence he has were only part of the reason the Rangers signed Quick to a one-year extension at $1.55 million, but they probably are what he’ll be remembered for most among his New York teammates.
“I don’t know if I’m really looking at it as far as mentoring or anything like that, just being a teammate,” Quick said after the Rangers’ morning skate at Xcel Energy Center ahead of their matchup with the Wild on Thursday night. “Obviously, there’s a close to 20-year age difference. You don’t feel that when you’re in here with them. They’re a teammate, and I’m helping them out any way I can.”
