You better believe we have some good news for you this Friday! After rumblings of another installment of Ted Lasso since the series (seemingly) ended with Season 3 in 2023, Apple TV+ revealed that the beloved comedy will be back for Season 4, with Jason Sudeikis returning in the title role of football coach Ted Lasso.
Apple confirmed the news this morning, and Sudeikis shared a statement, too.
“As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,’ in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be,” he said.
As for other cast members returning, Variety reported in August 2024 that Warner Bros. had picked up options for Hannah Waddingham (who starred as Rebecca Welton), Brett Goldstein (who starred as Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (who starred as Leslie Higgins).
However, their casting is not official, as no one other than Sudeikis was mentioned as a returning cast member in Friday’s press release. Additionally, Nick Mohammed, the actor behind the “Wonder Kid” himself Nathan Shelley, had alluded to shooting Ted Lasso Season 4 in a Jan. 25 video on X about his Show Pony tour.
Goldstein is back as a writer and executive producer on the new season. Other executive producers include Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, Bill Wrubel, series co-creator Bill Lawrence and Leanne Bowen, as well as Sarah Walker, Phoebe Walsh and new addition Jack Burditt.
Apple TV+’s head of programming Matt Cherniss described Ted Lasso as “nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fanbase all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief.”
“Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show,” Cherniss added of the show’s renewal.
In light of today’s news, Ted Lasso’s X account was reemerged on Friday morning, with “Lasso” writing, “Finally found the dang password to this thing. Sorry y’all. What’d I miss?”
Ted Lasso Seasons 1-3 are now streaming on Apple TV+.
