That was one bumpy ride.
Think back — if you could — to the first time you ever experienced turbulence when flying on a plane. Terrifying, right? That’s exactly what happened to this passenger who took to TikTok to share her frightening experience.
TikTok user @maanneri started recording what originally seemed like a peaceful video — the airplane’s wing flying amidst a beautiful blue sky and some fluffy clouds.
“It’s ur first time on a plane and this happens…” as the text overlay hints that this video isn’t as serene as one would think. Suddenly, the plane’s wing is seen trembling in the sky as it passes through the clouds, which, as most experienced flyers know, is just turbulence.
However, for this passenger, she must’ve thought her worst flying nightmare was coming true. It didn’t help that other passengers on the plane were heard shrieking in the background of the video.
The video captioned, “tb to when my soul left earth + the panicked voices in the bg” has over four million views and almost 2,000 comments of people chiming in.
Flight anxiety is clearly high these days due to the news of all the recent plane crashes — so people had a lot to say about this topic.
Some people vulnerably opened up about their turbulence fear.
“this happened when i was pooping, i almost cried,” one commenter revealed.
“I’ve been on more planes than I could ever count and my soul still leaves my body every time we go through a cloud,” this person shared.
“I hate cloudy flights because of this. It’s so bumpyyyy,” a commenter wrote.
Other comments tried to be reassuring, sharing that turbulence is nothing to worry about.
“It’s called turbulence. It’s as normal and safe as a speed bump in a parking lot,” a person said.
“Always remember there’s no accident that caused by turbulence,” another comment read.
“The most dangerous thing about turbulence are the people who freak out about it,” someone else chimed in with.

If you are someone who gets easily freaked out by turbulence, it might be helpful to know three of the bumpiest routes in the US, so you can avoid them when booking your next flight.
According to Turbli, a turbulence forecast tool, try to avoid flying Albuquerque to Denver. While you’re at it, try to also steer clear of flying from Denver to the resort town of Jackson, Wyo. Lastly, don’t even think about Jackson to Salt Lake City, as it ranked third as the bumpiest flight route.
