A woman who is five months pregnant is taking to the internet to express her frustrations with her mother-in-law, who, she writes in a post shared on Reddit, is “salty” that the couple doesn’t plan to name their child after her.
The woman writes that her mother-in-law recently gave her significant other “the silent treatment” for three weeks after he told her to ask them when she could visit, rather than show up unannounced.
“On the phone she played the frail and fragile woman — [she] doesn’t feel well, she won’t be able to visit anytime soon anyway because of her health etc. Typical,” she writes in the post.
But there are other frustrating behaviors, too, she adds.
“When we announced the pregnancy at 12 weeks, [mother-in-law] was salty that we told everyone at the same time and that she didn’t get special treatment and wasn’t told before the rest of the family,” she writes in the post. “When she found out it was a girl, she jokingly said a couple of times ‘why don’t you name her after me!’ ”
But that, she writes, is “not going to happen.”
On a recent phone call, she brought up the name again, and this time she seemed less jokey.
“She told my husband we should give her name to the baby, at least as a middle name. He said no. She was soooo salty about it!! I find it hilarious. Who even does that?” she writes.

Others on Reddit are sharing similar stories of their own mothers-in-law.
“Mine admitted bitterly a couple years after the last grandkid was born that she ‘couldn’t believe’ she had 9 grandchildren and ‘no one named one after me’ and ‘I didn’t think I had to ask,’ ” writes one commenter.
Adds another: ” When we told my MIL and FIL we were pregnant we didn’t know the gender yet she said ‘if it’s a girl you have to name her after me’ and I laughed out loud and shut it down so fast. No we don’t have to do anything? And we definitely wouldn’t use an old name like that. Shut her up real good.”
