A Maryland man couldn’t believe his luck after winning a $50,000 lottery prize.
The program counselor, who has not been publicly identified, told lottery officials that he stopped into a food mart on his way home from picking his wife up at work and bought a few tickets for a May 31 drawing.
The next day, he checked his numbers.
“I went up to the gas station, scanned my tickets and the one said to, ‘Take to the Lottery,’ ” he recalled. “I didn’t understand why and I asked the cashier what it meant.”
Of course, the cashier knew exactly what it went.
Despite his shock at learning he was a winner, the man said he kept running errands — but he did do one extra special thing to celebrate: he got his car detailed.
“I just wanted my car right and I got the works,” he said. “I didn’t care how much it cost.”
The man kept his ticket safe until Tuesday, June 3, when he claimed his prize at Lottery headquarters.

As for what he plans on doing with the money, the man already has it mostly figured out. First up: a shopping spree.
“I like clothes and I’m refreshing my wardrobe,” he told lottery officials, adding that he might buy a new car for his wife but will put the rest into savings.
Maryland Lottery officials are also giving a $500 bonus to the Baltimore food mart that sold him the winning ticket.
