Kelly Rutherford Photographed with Model Son Hermés, 18, Years After Custody Battle

Kelly Rutherford is sharing the spotlight with her son Hermés Giersch.

The 56-year-old Gossip Girl alum posed with her 18-year-old model son, whom she shares with ex-husband Daniel Giersch, on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Netherlands.

In the photographs, Hermés appears shirtless as he reclines alongside his mom in the grass, resting his head on her stomach. Rutherford looked stylish in matching pants and a blanket draped around her.

In the interview, Rutherford discusses “career, motherhood and nature,” according to a teaser on Instagram. She also shared tips on styling a wardrobe ahead of the summer.

While playing a game of “This or That” for the publication, the pair revealed where their passions and interests intersect and dished on their favorite Gossip Girl characters. When asked to choose between Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) and Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively), they provided a diplomatic answer.

“I love them both,” Rutherford said, as Hermés took a similar stance, adding, “I have to agree with that.”

Their photoshoot comes years after the conclusion of a contentious custody battle between Rutherford and Daniel over Hermés and their shared daugther Helena Giersch.

The actress and Daniel, a German businessman, married in 2005 and welcomed their son a year later. However, they divorced in 2009 while Rutherford was pregnant with Helena.

What was initially an even split of custody changed in 2015 when Daniel was granted full custody of the kids, who were then 9 and 6 in Monaco. Rutherford was only able to visit her children in Monaco or France.

This came after Rutherford refused to put the children on a plane to return to Daniel after a visit to the United States earlier that year.

“These past three years waiting for my children to come home have been very difficult. My children were forced to leave the United States in 2012 when they were only 2 and 5 years old,” she said in a statement at the time, expressing a hope that they would be returned to her.

In 2024, Rutherford opened up about her life after the battle came to a close.

“Yes, it was a challenging time. It was a heartbreaking time. But I focus on the good most of the time, I really do,” she told PEOPLE. “I’m very thankful of where we are. I have a great relationship with my kids.”

She added, “We were never completely separated.”

Earlier this year, Rutherford and her son made a rare outing to attend the Elie Saab Womenswear Fall/Winter show at the Palais de Tokyo as part of Paris Fashion Week in March.
