Cher Remembers Her Late Mom Georgia Holt on Her 99th Birthday

Cher is remembering her mom three years after her death.

In an X post on Monday, June 9, the singer shared a heartfelt tribute to her late mom Georgia Holt on what would’ve been her 99th birthday.

“Hey 🌟Mom🌟Happy 🎈🎂Day. Sometimes I Talk 2 U,Need 2 Ask U a Question,Or I FORGET,& THINK,OH..GOTTA CALL MOM. We Both Know U Could Be a Little Off The Wall Sometimes, BUT MOM,I AM WHO I AM … BECAUSE OF U💋Me,” Cher wrote.

Holt, an actress and singer known for her role on I Love Lucy, died at the age of 96 in December 2022. Her death came just three months after she had been hospitalized with pneumonia.

Cher was close with her mother throughout the years, with Holt even making a brief vocal cameo on TV’s Cher…Special in 1978. The pair later collaborated on a documentary about Holt’s life and her role as the matriarch of a family of entertainers.

Dear Mom, Love Cher was released on Lifetime in 2013, and featured exclusive interviews about Holt’s multiple marriages, her relationship with Cher and her other daughter, Georganne LaPiere, as well as her grandsons Chaz Bono and Elijah Blue Allman.

In November 2024, Cher opened up further about her late mother in Cher: The Memoir, Part One. The “Believe” singer humorously recounted that her mother’s reason for divorcing real estate magnate Joseph Harper Collins was that he was “too wild in the bedroom” for her taste.

According to the memoir, Holt met Collins in the summer of 1957 at a party and were engaged shortly after. After they got married, Cher, her mom, and sister Georganne moved into Joe’s Beverly Hills mansion. Following the divorce, Cher recounted that Joe set them up with their own new house and housekeeper as part of the settlement.

The “After All” singer announced the death of her mom in an X post on December 11, 2022. “Mom is gone,” Cher wrote at the time alongside a sad-face emoji.

When asked about her childhood memories with her mother following her death, Cher said she remembered Holt and her friends being “so beautiful,” with Holt herself being an “amazing dresser.”

Holt is survived by daughters Cher, LaPiere, 73, and Cher’s sons, Bono, 56, and Allman, 48.
