Giada De Laurentiis Is Hosting a New Kitchen Makeover Show — Watch the Trailer (Exclusive)

Giada De Laurentiis is known for her skills in the kitchen — but now she’s transforming the kitchen itself.

The celebrity chef hosts the upcoming special Giada in My Kitchen, in which she works with  designer Erik Garcia to surprise families with their dream kitchen makeover.

The pair aim to create spaces that are both beautiful and functional in the new show, which premieres on Prime Video on June 23.

“I’m Giada De Laurentiis and I think I know a thing or two about setting up a great kitchen,” the Food Network alum says in a trailer Amazon shared exclusively with PEOPLE.

“So many cooks are stuck with a kitchen that isn’t working for them,” she notes in the video. “We’re going to give you the kitchen that you’ve always dreamed of.”

“It’s going to transform their lives,” she adds.

The culinary star tells PEOPLE she hopes to “celebrate and empower incredible home cooks” with the show, and wants to give them “a space that not only supports their talent, but also inspires them every time they walk in.”

She calls the show “a completely different experience” from her past food series.

“It’s less about cooking and more about transformation,” she explains. “We focus on building dream kitchens from the ground up, incorporating design, construction and of course, every kitchen gadget you could dream of. It’s been so fun.”

“A great kitchen should feel like a dance — everything in its place, just where you need it,” De Laurentiis adds. “Utensils by the stove, knives within arm’s reach, custom drawers for heavy cast iron skillets and tall pasta pots. I always prioritize flow and function first, then layer in beauty through natural materials like marble, wood and stone to bring warmth, texture and personality into the space.”

As for the makeover recipients, she says, “The reactions brought tears to my eyes.”

“Whitney nominated her husband Michael, who’s the heart of their kitchen and family,” De Laurentiis says of a couple featured on the show. “When I saw the tiny space he was working in, I knew we could give him something truly special. Seeing their reactions — the joy and the gratitude — was incredibly moving. I’ll never forget the look on Michael’s face when he walked into his new kitchen. Moments like that are why I do this.”

De Laurentiis left the Food Network in 2023 after 21 years to focus on her cookbooks and lifestyle brand, Giadzy.

“I feel like I’ve gone to business school without really ever attending school,” she told PEOPLE in October 2024 while reflecting on the new chapter. “It has blown my mind, honestly, how much I didn’t know that I didn’t know. It’s helped me be okay with not knowing the answer and leaning on others to teach me, and to be open and the excitement of learning at my age.”

“I’m 54 now, and I think we get to a certain age and we’re like, ‘I pretty much know,’” she continued. “Especially if you’ve been successful at something, you think, ‘Oh, I know what there is to know about what I’m doing,’” she continued. “And I realized there’s so much in the unknown and actually enjoying not knowing and learning in a way that I don’t think I had done for the last 10 years before that… So it’s renewed my energy in learning. I think it’s grounded me a lot and humbled me.”
