Dakota Johnson ‘Freaked Out’ When Sandra Bullock Texted Her About Razzie Award

Dakota Johnson found a new friend in Sandra Bullock when she won a Razzie Award in February.

When Johnson, 35, appeared on the Tuesday, June 10 episode of Amy Poehler‘s podcast Good Hang, the Madame Web actress shared that Bullock, 60, sent her a voice note after Johnson and her 2024 superhero movie Madame Web received accolades from the Razzies for Worst Actress, Worst Screenplay and Worst Picture in February and invited her to recurring brunch meetings.

“I recently actually exchanged texts — well, I got a voice note — from Sandra Bullock, because I don’t know if you know, but I won the Razzie for Worst Actress,” Johnson told Poehler, 53, after Poehler asked the actress about older actors she looked up to while growing up. “Oh my God, you did? Congrats,” Poehler said in response to Johnson’s Razzie win. “There’s a lot of good people who have won that.”

“I asked if they’d send it to me,” Johnson added. “But Sandra Bullock sent me a voice note being like ‘I heard you are in the Razzie club and we should have brunch, we should have a monthly brunch.’ Because I guess she won that the year that she won the Oscar as well. It was in the same year, I think.”

“I freaked out getting this message from her because she’s so iconic to me, as like a movie star,” Johnson said of hearing from Bullock. “I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ I was just crazy.”

Bullock famously appeared in person at the Razzie Awards in Los Angeles in March 2010 to accept the award for Worst Actress for her movie All About Steve; she won her first career Academy Award days later for her performance in The Blind Side.

Johnson, who also cited Thora Birch, Christina Ricci and Diane Keaton as major influences on her as a child, noted that Bullock told her that after she picked up her Razzie Award in person, the spoof awards show “called her and asked her to give it back because they only had one.”

While she and Poehler discussed the award and the Sony box office bomb, Madame Web, which Johnson has already described as “not my fault,” the actress noted that the movie’s final product held “a completely different script than what I attached to” when she originally agreed to star in the film.

“That is a wild thing to like a crazy journey to go on as an artist because you’re like, ‘Okay, I’m doing something like with my actual body and my actual mind and my heart, my emotions. I’m like using things. And it’s just being taken and f—– with,’ ” she said. “But you can’t do anything about it. Like, what am I gonna do? F—— cry about Madame Web? No.”
