Good Morning America is on the move!
It’s the end of an era for the beloved morning talk show as the team prepares to relocate to a new home in New York City. The move comes 26 years after the show first began broadcasting from its iconic Times Square studio on Sept. 13, 1999.
During the June 9 broadcast, the co-anchors kicked off their final week in the longtime studio by reflecting on their first days on set.
“I just remember thinking, ‘I’m a little girl from Mississippi and I’m working in Times Square. It’s just so majestic,” Robin Roberts recalled.
ABC News chief meteorologist Ginger Zee added, “My first time in Times Square coming to this studio was magical. I mean truly, I pulled up and the stop light on 44th, I just remember looking up and thinking, ‘This cannot be my life.’ ”
Now, more than two decades later, Good Morning America is beginning a new chapter as the crew — including co-anchors Roberts, Zee, Lara Spencer, George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan — say goodbye to their longtime studio.

Why is Good Morning America moving studios?

News of Good Morning America‘s relocation first came in October 2023, when an ABC News spokesperson shared in a statement that the show’s move was part of a larger, “strategic” relocation for all ABC News teams.
“Good Morning America is defined by the strength of our team in front of and behind the camera, quality of our reporting, and the long, trusted relationship with our viewers,” the spokesperson said, per Deadline. “Moving all ABC News teams to our new state-of-the-art building was a strategic decision that will allow for more collaboration and innovation.”

Good Morning America is saying goodbye to Times Square and making its way to downtown Manhattan.
Deadline reported in October 2023 that the talk show was moving to the Walt Disney Company’s new N.Y.C. headquarters. Per its website, the headquarters is named the Robert A. Iger building, located at 7 Hudson Square.
As Strahan revealed during the June 9 broadcast, Good Morning America will begin broadcasting from the new space during the week of June 16.
“This time next week we’ll be saying ‘Good Morning America’ from our new home,” he shared.
What have the Good Morning America anchors said about their longtime studio?

As the co-anchors kicked off their final week in the Times Square studio, they reflected on their first day on set.
“The bright lights, the personality, the energy, how intimidated I was when I walked through the door. A lot of thoughts were going through my mind,” Strahan, who joined the team full-time in 2016, said, adding that it felt “overwhelming.”
Meanwhile, Roberts recalled spending her first day in the Times Square studio in 1999, interviewing tennis legend Serena Williams after she won her first U.S. Open and Grand Slam title.
“Our studio is brand-spanking-new, and she comes in, and she talks with us,” Roberts recalled. “She had a little dog. I think her dog’s name was Jackie. Jackie’s all up in my face. But I just remember the energy and just looking around, going, ‘This is our home?’ All these years later, it still feels that way.”
Although the talk show will find a new home, the co-anchor shared that the spirit of the show will remain the same.
“It never gets old to say ‘Good Morning America,’ ” Roberts said.
As the crew of co-anchors shared sentimental memories and reflected on their Times Square studio, Spencer said, “This is our home. We are here all the time … I’m gonna miss it so much.”
Stephanopoulos added, “I’m gonna miss watching the night before clean-up in Times Square on Friday nights.”
Which other morning shows are moving to the Walt Disney Company headquarters?

Good Morning America isn’t the only talk show making the move to the Walt Disney Company’s new N.Y.C. headquarters.
The space is also the new home for Live with Kelly and Mark, The View and The Tamron Hall Show.
The View was the first major talk show to make the move to the building, broadcasting from the new studio in September 2024. Ahead of the first broadcast, executive producer Brian Teta gave PEOPLE a glimpse of the new studio, describing it as “a phenomenal marvel of engineering.”
“I’ve been in television for 25 years and it’s one of the only times where I’ve been shown the plans for something and it’s not only met the original vision, but really exceeded it,” Teta said. “It’s really terrific.”
He added, “We looked at this, I think six months ago and I was like, ‘Yeah, sure, if that actually happens, that will be phenomenal.’ And then to walk in here and see what they’ve put together?”
Teta went on to give “credit to the people who designed this, the crew who installed it, and everybody else involved.”
In April 2025, Live with Kelly and Mark began broadcasting from the swanky new space, which co-host Mark Consuelos shared has major technological upgrades from their previous studio.
“It sounds good!” he said. “It sounds like a stadium!”
